The books have left an indelible mark on our hearts. While the stories themselves are powerful and inspiring, representative of a marked time in our collective childhood, the art that went into each cover and the heading of each chapter is somehow just as important. And with a series as monumental as Harry Potter, there are countless different versions of the cover art; anniversary releases, special editions, and of course, the different editions that were released in different languages around the globe.RELATED:With a new Hogwarts House edition set to be released in June, it is a good time as any to look back at all the amazing cover art that the Potter series has produced. From the UK to China, here are the ten best Harry Potter covers.
Marks a strong turn in the series; it represents the point that the series grew suddenly much, much darker. The Prisoner of Azkaban brought us closer to this point, but it was the Goblet of Fire that turned a lighthearted children's story into a dark adventure. This German edition of the cover represents that quite well - it is full of dark storm clouds and shadows, interspersed among streaks of flame from the dragon; a challenge for Harry, but not the true enemy. 9 The Half-Blood Prince - Original American Edition. Marks Harry's last full year at Hogwarts. It is a time of open warfare, mounting terror, recovery from never-ending loss.
Rowling has the rare ability to take children's fantasy worlds and their workaday worlds with equal seriousness, and she speak to both in Goblet of Fire.' – The Boston Sunday Globe 'The fourth Harry Potter adventure, centering on an inter-school competition, boasts details that are as ingenious and original as ever. This cover aptly captures the content of this story. The focus is, of course, on the Pensieve and the trips into memory that Dumbledore took so often with Harry, as a means of understanding their enemy.
The Dark Mark, which dominates the back cover, as well as the green hue make Voldemort and Harry's potential impending doom even more real. The killing curse is green, as is this cover. The Half-Blood Prince is arguably one of the better books in the series. It is full of encroaching darkness that is merged expertly with the kind of teenage drama that Harry is now experiencing. One of the best parts of the book occurs at the end, when Draco Malfoy leads a troop of Death Eaters into the school, where they meet members of the Order of the Phoenix, as well as members of Dumbledore's Army. This entire aspect of the book, unfortunately, never made it into the movies, which makes the fact that it is represented on this cover all the more special.
1 The Deathly Hallows - UK Children's Edition. It seems appropriate that the best cover of each edition of the series around the world is the UK version, the place that JK Rowling calls home. The scene this artist chose to capture is the one where Harry, Ron, and Hermione break into the Lestrange's Gringotts vault. In this mix of chaos and humor, this image perfectly captures each character's personality.Ron is wide-eyed and terrified, all while he retains his grip on the Sword of Gryffindor; Hermione is reaching for something, and Harry is absolutely and entirely focused on retrieving the Horcrux. It is a perfect representation of not just The Deathly Hallows, but also the entire series: a mix of chaos and humor, perpetuated by the three friends.NEXT.
